Meta-gaming
from zoey on 06/02/2015 12:03 AMMeta-gaming is a form of blending that occurs when a player utilizes information obtained Out of Character in an In Character situation. This occurs most frequently when a player reads something on a forum, in a character profile, or in a chat log and suddenly their character has that information. When the character had no plausible way of obtaining the information, meta-gaming is considered discourteous and poor form. There are situations where meta-gaming is reasonable, but it is always courteous to obtain consent from the involved players.
Power Gaming
from zoey on 06/02/2015 12:01 AMPowergaming is when a player makes a decision for and/or attempts to control another player's character and/or storyline without his/her consent. The Wikipedia description of powergaming is particularly apt:
"A player can be described as a powergamer if (s)he presumes or declares that his or her own action against another player character is successful without giving the other player character the freedom to act on his own prerogative. They may also be a player who tries to force others to participate in role-playing they don't want to engage in. For instance, a player who unilaterally describes his character as doing something with (or to) another character that would usually require the other to play along — such as having a fight or a sexual encounter — is considered to be powergaming. "
Like God-Moding, powergaming is generally considered discourteous and poor form, in the context of emote-based roleplay in an online environment.
Mission Statement
from zoey on 06/01/2015 10:29 PMThe Black Tusk Raiders are a privateer company known mainly for being bullies of the sea. They are known as raiders, thugs, mercenary, and a general seedy crowd. Though the groups roots are in an orc tribe they have since been accepting other members who have proven that they can handle themselves and share the same mindsets. They are a rough bunch who's object is earning. They don't care much about one side or the other, just the opportunity either can give them. They are loyal to their own (for the most part) and that's about the extent of that word to them.
Dice Fighting - Intermediate 1.02
from zoey on 06/01/2015 10:07 PMDice 102: Intermediate Dice Fighting
Version 1.2
Creation Date 12/1/14
Version Date: 2/12/15
Changelog:
Clarified Healing rules
1.2
Added dragging someone from a fight.
Introduction
This is for more advanced options in dice fighting. The Dice 101: Basic Dice fighting card covers the basics of using dice to dictate combat. This is a supplement card meant to create more options to make the combat feel more dynamic.
New Options
[Healing] There is healing in dice combat. At the end of your post you would just put (Healing ) with being the player you are attempting to heal. They would then be healed for a single point.
a.) Healing is an action you do IN PLACE of an attack NOT in addition to. This means that if you use your action to heal then you do not get to make an attack.
b.) Healing requires a 1d100 roll that adds your level bonus into the roll. To successfully heal you must beat the set number of 60.
c.) As above, if your healing action is meant to be an attack (such as casting healing magic against an undead foe) you will need to roll against because this is a hostile action.
d.) Mass healing? No.
e.) Anyone can heal. Sure it is expected that your character be able to perform some form a healing if they are going to be healing in combat however there is no system in place that neither monitors this at this time nor are their plans to implement a system like this at this time.
f.) You must spend two actions to heal yourself. One to ready the healing and the second to perform it. If you are hit in between the charging post and the action post you stand to be interrupted by the same rules of AoE's (see below).
[Area of Effect] An area of effect ability or AoE for short is an attack that targets multiple people. An AoE action takes two rounds to complete. The first round of the action will consist of you making a leading post or a charging post. This post should look like: Bob begins to call on some magical forces and what not to draw a ball of fire towards him (charging). The charging in () is added at the end just to let the moderator know that you are plotting something. The order will then move to the next person. On the second round of your AoE action, if you are still charging, you will then make your attack post. AoE's can target any number of players dictated by the source player. All targeted players will then do a roll against targeting the source player. Those who succeed the roll will be missed by the attack. Those who fail will take a single point of damage from the attack.
a.) AoE's will affect all players listed by the source player.
b.) Can AoE's be interrupted? Yes, any action that requires you do perform a charging action first can be interrupted. The chance of this happening occurs when someone scores a successful hit against the player who is charging the action. After the successful hit the attack will perform another roll against action. This does not require an RP post and will do no damage. If it is successful, however, it will interrupt the charging and the player performing the charging will either need to abandon the action or start all over on their turn.
[Shielding] Shielding is when a player choses to spend a round blocking for another player rather than making an attack action. At the end of your RP post you will add (shielding ) so that the moderator knows what your intention is. If you are shielding another player, all direct attacks towards that player go towards you instead until it is your turn again and you chose to do something else rather than shield or until you are knocked out of the fight.
a.) Shielding takes the place of an attack. If you chose to shield another player you forgo your attack.
b.) When another player attacks the player you are shielding that player rolls against you rather than their target. If the hit is successful the damage goes to you rather than their target.
c.) Shielding will not affect how an AoE works. An AoE will still hit a shielded player.
d.) If player 1 is charging an action and player 2 is shielding them, does hitting player 2 have a chance to interrupt player 1's charging action? No, not even a little.
e.) A player cannot be shielded by two players at once and a player who is shielding another player cannot be shielded himself.
Dragging Someone from a Fight:
Dragging someone from a fight works like an AoE and takes two posts. Your first post is announcing your intention to drag someone from the fight. This is known as a charging post. If you are hit between your charge post and your second post then the player who hits you immediately rolls again to see if they interrupt you. If you are not interrupted by your second post then you roll against the person you are trying to drag from combat. If you fail then nothing happens. If you succeed then both you and the other person are removed from combat.
Bosses and NPCs
During sim events bosses and/or NPCs (nonplayer characters) may be introduced with special abilities. These bosses and/or NPCs will have a special notecard. They will be provided with Stats, powers, and abilities not available to players. This is to make the event more challenging for the players and to justify any reward that the event offers.
Dice Fighting 1.01
from zoey on 06/01/2015 10:06 PMDice Fighting 101
INTRODUCTION
This is for basic dice fighting. Basic dice fighting is a fighting system where players make a role playing post about their combat and then roll a dice versus another player to see if their attack or defense was successful. The CoV HUD System will roll both the attacker's dice and the defender's dice and announce the result.
Intermediate Dice Combat Rules:
FIGHT FLOW
The first thing that happens in a fight is the initiative roll. This will decide the order in which combatants make their posts. This is done by rolling a 1d100 die (free roll on CoV HUD) and then putting players in order based on what they roll, highest going first and lowest going last. If two players tie on a dice roll then both those players roll again to see which one goes first.
Next combat begins. With the CoV HUD system you will focus your camera on your target. The best way to do this is to hold alt while clicking on the avatar you wish to target. Their name should appear near the middle of your screen. You will then click the roll against button. The HUD will have you type in your attack and then click roll. The HUD will then roll your dice versus their dice and announce the outcome.
If you are struck by another player then you are to include the "getting hit" post in with your next attack. This means if Player1 struck Player2 then Player2's post would first include getting hit by player1 and then go into their attack.
Ex.
[Post]
Player1 chargers player2 and swings his blade toward the man's chest.
[Die Roll]
Player1 rolls 45, Player2 rolls 30. Player 1 hits.
[Post]
Player2 staggers back from the blow and flips his dagger through the air towards Player1.
[Die Roll]
Player2 rolls 78, Player1 rolls 44. Player 2 hits.
KEEPING SCORE
In basic dice fighting all players have three "Hit Points". This is displayed in a format such as:
Player1:0/3, Player2:0/3
What this shows is that each player has a maximum of three hit points and that each player has taken zero hits.
Player1:2/3, Player2:0/3
The example above shows that Player 1 has taken two points of damage while Player 2 still has not taken any damage. Once a player reaches their maximum hit points in combat they are considered KO and must make a KO post. The score should be posted once per combat round but may be posted once after each player's turn. This is a matter of preference. For larger fights with more than just two people sometimes it helps to keep order by posting it more often than once a round.
CLOSED AND OPEN FIGHTS
By default a fight starts as closed. This means that once initiative is rolled, no new players may join. Remember, you always have the right to refuse a fight and flee rather than roll initiative. Once a fight starts players can be admitted into the fight if BOTH sides agree. This can be a player by player basis or this can be an agreement to open the fight to anyone in general.
DAMAGE AND HEALING AFTER A FIGHT
After a fight you do not just suddenly heal. It takes one hour for you to return to full health. During this period, any damage you have taken stays on your character. This process can be reduced to thirty minutes if your character visits a healer IC and rps the treatment (log may be requested if disputed).
RETREATING FROM COMBAT
At the start of a fight you can run away for free. No one can force you to fight. It is in bad form, however, to have your character provoke a fight and then flee from it. If you are already engaged in a fight you must do a roll to run away. Your attack post will be you fleeing and your roll will determine if you escape or not. You get to choose which enemy in the fight you roll versus to make this escape. A successful escape means your character gets away and you must leave the area in 20m in any direction. A failed attempt to flee ends with you still locked in combat and goes to the next combatant.
JOINING A FIGHT IN PROGRESS
To join a fight in progress all players must have agreed to open the fight or both sides of the fight must agree to admit the new players on a player by player basis.
CLEANING UP AFTER THE FIGHT
Once the fight has concluded, the fight enters the clean up stage. During this stage no one new can join the scene. This allows the fighters to finish the RP scene. Captives can be taken, losers can be robbed, etc etc etc. This scene lasts until all spoils and consequences are handled. No rescue attempts or attempts to interrupt this scene can take place. If captives are taken then their captors are free to take them back to their faction base or some other neutral ground without harassment.
COV Rules
from zoey on 06/01/2015 10:05 PMWelcome to:
CREST OF VREK'MAR
Landmark:
Welcome to Crest of Vrek'mar. Below you will find the General Rules, Characters and Role Play information that you need to know before wandering out into the greed and lust-fueled land of Vrek'mar.
********IMPORTANT - MUST READ BEFORE VENTURING FORTH*******
If you are seen breaking any of the following rules, the Guardians and/or Steward may see fit to act. Your first breach will be met with a Warning. If you fail to alter the behavior, you will be removed from the Island for 24 hours. A 3rd breach will see you sent from the Island for 3 days. If you continue to show disregard for the rules, you will be given a second warning coupled with a 1 week ban. If you show utter disregard and disrespect for the rules a fifth time, you will be ejected from the Island permanently, without question or notice. A petition to the Owner may provide you re-entry after an extended period. However, the sim owner reserves the right to alter these rules at any time.
*Group-Please wear the main group tag or approved faction tag when in CoV, this is a requirement for roleplay. A group tag may be obtained from the list of Guardians displayed in the OOC Lounge. All members must be 3 months old to join the group.
* CoV requires fantasy/medieval time period clothing. We offer freebies to those of you who are new to the RP sim, feel free to grab some and head down to the sim. Explorers wearing modern clothing may explore but are restricted from being involved in roleplay and must wear an observer tag.
*The following is strictly prohibited:
a) Metagaming- using out-of-game information, or resources, to affect one's in-game decisions. Using information in any form that has not been shared with your character or you have not found out the information legitimately through RP.
b) Godmodding- is when someone does an action/actions that are impossible to defend against. It is also used when someone describes how the other person is affected by it, thus leaving the player unable to rp his/her own character.
c) Powergaming; aim of maximizing progress towards a specific goal (winning), to the exclusion of other considerations such as storytelling, atmosphere and camaraderie. Role-playing your character as having an impossible amount of strength yet no weaknesses.
*Spell Huds- THE USE OF SPELL HUDS OR HUDS TO REZ EFFECT SPELLS ARE NOT ALLOWED: they cause sim lag and make it hard for others to move around and enjoy the sim
*Roleplay and Chat- Please remember to maintain your IC role at all times while you are on sim; all OOC chatter should be kept out of local chat unless for informational purposes and should be stated in bracket form such as ((afk, skip my post round)). Remember when using the group chat to be respectful to others.
a) IC- in character
b) OOC- out of character
*Sex- This is and ADULT fantasy roleplay Sim with no expectation of privacy in public areas. If you want to find privacy, find a semi-private place such as a tavern bed, an isolated cave..etc. We do not encourage interrupting erotic scenes when there is an attempt at privacy. If in doubt, IM the roleplayers involved in the scene.
BECAUSE WE ARE AN ADULT SIM, CHILD AVATARS ARE NOT ALLOWED under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES : NO PRIM BABIES, NO BABY AVATARS, NO TODDLERS AND NO SCRIPTED OR TALKING PREGNANT BELLIES. THIS IS FOR ALL RACES. IF YOUR AVATAR IS QUESTIONABLE FOR ANY REASON THE SIM ADMINISTRATION MAY ASK YOU TO ALTER IT OR YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE. THESE RULES ARE NON-NEGOTIABLE.
Every member of this sim has the option to NOT RP. Remember this is YOUR Story, YOUR SL.. At the end of the night, it is JUST A GAME. If you are uncomfortable with a situation, position, or the way an RP is going, you ALWAYS have the option to walk away. RP Etiquette would ask that you IM the other party and simply let them know. ANY OOC Harassment as a result of this is not tolerated and should be reported to Guardian immediately. With that being said, please remember where you are, this is an ADULT, RAPE, TORTURE, CAPTURE SIM... read the profile everyone, Disneyland was three exits back.
*Character Creation- CoV is a land of fantasy, magic, strange creatures and of course carnal pleasure. We accept almost all races and lore; examples include:
Demons Mythological Beasts, Minotaurs, Dragons, Centaur, Angels, Werewolves, Vampires, Elves, Orcs, Dwarves, Fairies, Satyrs, Fauns, Witches, Wizards, Wenches, Gladiators, Barbarians, Greek, Spartans, Romans, Vikings, Knights, Slaves, Trolls, Etc.
If you are unsure in where to get started or need clarification on a character, ask a Guardian.
Giant avatars are allowed to a degree- This is mostly for lag reasons and if your avatar lags others you may be asked to change.
UPDATE: My Little Pony avatars will not be allowed due to the in theme setting and child avatar rule.
**CoV GUARDIAN (administrative role): Please see the status boards in the OOC lounge for a list of Online Guardians.

Sinking of the Ship
from zoey on 06/01/2015 09:35 PMSeems that the ship floated away from the docks. A small group of concerned Vrek'Mar citizens tried their best to stop it but to no avail. The ship crashed into a large rock in the bay and broke in half and is now sinking slowly. The Captain of the guard has been seen asking questions to determine what actually ocurred
